In Europe, both 7pin (ISO 1724) and 13pin (ISO 11446) are common. The 13pin version being phased in is newer, provides more services than the 7pin, a more positive locking and also better protection against moisture and contamination. The connectors are designed for 12V systems. Exceptions for the 7pin connector may exist where they may be used for 6V and 24V.
What Size Wire Gauge is Used for a 7Way Wiring Harness The minimum suggested wire size for a 7way trailer plug is 16 gauge for the turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights, and running light wires. The suggested minimum for the ground, brake power, and battery hot lead wires is 12 gauge.
