Autoimmune inner ear disease was first defined by Dr. Brian McCabe in a landmark paper describing an autoimmune loss of hearing. The disease results in progressive sensorineural hearing loss that acts bilaterally and asymmetrically, and sometimes affects an individuals vestibular system.
